Like most, I have spent my life looking for solid ground. During my frequent search for jobs, relationships, housing, etc., I felt at times that I was looking for air. Although I had people influence my decisions, figuring out where to go next was ultimately my own responsibility. I needed to trust my own abilities to orient myself, sometimes without reference points. Just like being underwater, everything would slow down, become muted and diffused whenever I had a big decision to make. And, there's always a matter of time.

This photographic process started with an underwater camera, the prints from which I made paper negatives using gel medium, which are placed directly into the enlarger. This is what gives the final prints their visible paper fibers and grain.
